When to visit an emergency eye hospital vs. Self-care
Not sure if your eye issue needs emergency care? Here’s a quick guide:
Seek emergency eye care if you experience:
- Sudden vision loss (partial or complete).
- Severe pain, swelling, or eye bleeding.
- Chemical exposure or burns.
- Foreign objects stuck in the eye.
- Flashes of light or sudden floaters (Possible retinal detachment).
- Severe eye infections with redness, pus, and extreme discomfort.
Self-care may be enough for:
- Mild irritation from dust or smoke (Try rinsing with clean water).
- Minor dryness or itching (Use artificial tears).
- Light eye strain from screens (Take breaks, reduce brightness).
If you’re uncertain, it’s always better to visit our hospital for an expert opinion.
Pediatric & Elderly emergency eye care
Eye emergencies in children and elderly patients might require special care due to their unique risks and vulnerabilities.
Specialized care for children & elderly
- Children: Higher risk of eye trauma, infections, or foreign objects entering the eye due to play and accidents.
- Elderly: Increased risk of sudden vision loss due to conditions such as strokes, retinal detachment, or age-related macular degeneration.
- Immediate medical intervention is crucial to prevent long-term vision damage.
What to do before reaching the hospital? (First-aid tips)
Patients may not always know how to manage an eye emergency at home before reaching the hospital. Follow these immediate steps:
Immediate steps before you arrive
- Chemical burn: Rinse eyes with clean water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention immediately.
- Foreign object in eye: Avoid rubbing the eye. Try blinking or gently rinsing with clean water to remove small debris.
- Severe eye injury: Cover the eye with a clean cloth or shield without applying pressure. Get emergency medical help immediately.

Hello friends I am glad to inform you about Dr Dhwani that I was very worried about doing cataract removal surgery on both eyes as my elder brother who is mentally ill for the last several years and he is undergoing cataract surgery on both eyes. Dr. Dhwani Maheswari explains this cataract operation in a very simple and effective manner to the young child in a very simple and effective manner in a situation where he was not ready for this and was not ready for his personal medicine and treatment. As soon as he fell unconscious, he was operated on cataract and I was afraid that he himself is mentally ill and if he does not pay attention, if he falls asleep, who will take care of him? In this situation, the way he performed this operation very effectively after one week and the fear that I had inside me that if this brother does not pay attention, then his eyes will go away, today by giving the necessary treatment to my brother who is mentally ill. Today they can read without any problem and there is no problem.
I cannot thank Dr Dhwani Maheswari enough for this. Thank you very much.
